Key Information

Sports Premium

The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools.  Here at Halfway Junior School we pride ourselves on being a happy and healthy place to learn.  Children are given the opportunity to experience a variety of different sporting activities and staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development.

For this year, our total grant is £8000 and so far in 2016/17 we have used our Sports Premium funding in the following ways:

  • Subscription to our Family of Schools Points Learning Network scheme for which we receive bespoke PE and sport support for the whole school.
  • Transport to the Kwik Cricket Festival.
  • Football pitch markings and upkeep of the sports field.
  • CPD event for teaching staff, focusing on Sports Hall Athletics.
  • Tag Rugby coaching for Y6 children to engage them in the sport.  CPD opportunity for teaching staff who can then continue to educate the basic rugby disciplines.
  • Resources for our annual whole school Sports Day.
  • Change 4 Life afterschool club.

Our future plans include:

  • Further outdoor provision to support our moves towards being a healthier school and making our outdoor spaces more exercise friendly.
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Experience Festival - Orienteering, problem solving and climbing.
  • Badminton Festival - Children will compete in teams to complete a circuit of badminton related skills and challenges.
  • Freddy Fit -  scheme of work will motivate children to improve their performances across a range of exercise and skill based activities.
  • Our School Council will work with Taylor Shaw to improve Breakfast Club and snacks.
